The populations of wild Tibetan antelopes in a naturereserve(保护区) in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Regionhave roughly doubled thanks to the effective protection efforts inthe past 20 years.
The number of Tibetan antelopes inthe area has increased to 150,000 from80,000 when the Qiang-tang NatureReserve was set up in 1993.

But government departments have offered timely help tolocal herdsmen for the losses,which have raised theirenvironmental protection awareness.
Forestry authorities have also taken measures to providemoney to residents in the reserve and confiscated (没收) huntingequipment such as rifles (猎枪).
With an average altitude of more than 5,000 metres, theQiang-tang Nature Reserve has an area of 300,000 squarekilometres.It became a state-level nature reserve in 2000.It is ahabitat for wild animals such as Tibetan antelopes on the stateprotection list.
